Your Delhi electricity bill just got pricier

Your electricity bill in Delhi is going up this June — not because you used more power, but because of a new surcharge your electricity company is allowed to charge.
Delhi's electricity regulator has approved a charge to recover the extra cost of buying power — over 7% — for all three providers: BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna, and Tata Power Delhi.
For a household paying ₹1,500 a month, that's roughly ₹105–₹110 extra. Not dramatic, but real.

• Your June electricity bill will be higher even if your usage stays exactly the same — budget for the bump now.
• If you pay around ₹2,000–₹3,000 a month, expect ₹150–₹220 extra this month.
• This surcharge is for June — it may or may not continue, depending on fuel costs.

What you can do

• Run heavy appliances — washing machine, AC, geyser — during off-peak hours (late night or early morning) to keep units consumed low.
• Check if your home qualifies for Delhi's subsidy slab — households using under 200 units a month still get subsidised rates.

You can't avoid the surcharge, but you can control how many units you use — and that's still fully in your hands.
