A few quiet but important money rules kicked in from June 1 — and missing them could mean penalties or blocked transactions.
UPI has new security checks, PAN linking requirements have tightened, and a key tax deadline is now live.
None of this is scary — but it needs five minutes of your attention today.
What this means for you
- If your PAN isn't linked to your Aadhaar, certain transactions can get blocked — including opening a new FD above ₹50,000 or starting a fresh investment.
- UPI's new security checks may prompt you to re-verify your mobile number inside your payments app — if you get that prompt, complete it promptly or your payments could pause at a bad moment.
- If you earn from freelancing, rent, or any income beyond your salary, you may have a quarterly tax payment due in June — called advance tax. Missing it means a late fee that starts adding up from this month. Even a ₹1,000 penalty is worth a five-minute check to avoid.
What you can do
- Open the Income Tax e-filing portal today and check if your PAN is active and linked to your Aadhaar — takes under two minutes.
- Check your advance tax schedule on the IT portal or ask your CA if any payment is due this month, and set a phone reminder right now.
You don't need to stress about this — you just need to spend five minutes on it before the month gets busy.
